Shiatsu for Pregnancy
The 'Shiatsu for Pregnancy' treatment provides much needed rest and relaxation to the expectant mother. Shiatsu works to harmonize the body's energy, to alleviate common pregnancy conditions. Some conditions that may be helped by Shiatsu for Pregnancy include:
- Increases circulation
- Reducing leg cramps
- Helps alleviate sciatica
- Promotes digestion
- Eases heart burn
- Promotes deep relaxation
- Helps to increase energy levels
- Provides gentle support for the expectant mother
The treatment uses a special cushion that adapts to the figure of a pregnant woman, allowing for a comfortable position. There is room for your bump, so you can comfortably lie face down, and enjoy some back shiatsu, otherwise, a comfortable side position is used.
Studies have shown that acupressure during labour can contribute to a more positive experience for the mother. For example, one study found that women whose partners had completed an acupressure massage workshop had a higher rate of spontaneous vaginal delivery and lower rate of caesarean section, and they averaged a much shorter length of labour. The project also found that women largely felt that acupressure delayed their need for other analgesia and that it was positively helpful in labour, and both women and birth partners felt much higher levels of birth satisfaction.
